Default i need a software program that i can use to custom search and locate specific documents or files, know any

Hey all.

Basically I have lots of PDF documents and I need a program or something like Excel to search and bring up the relevant documents.

For example I could have 4 files, "1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf and 4.pdf". Each PDF document has details about let's say wine. Let's say 3 of our wines are from the year 1997, but 2 of the are red wines and 1 white and the other wine is a red wine from the year 1999. Basically I want to ahave a program that will bring up the files that are relevant depending if I am looking for red wines, or say wines from a specific year. I would like to index them myself into the relevant categories but then have a search function that only brings up the relevant ones.

Does anyone know how to do this or if it can be done? I know that a web based page allows this, but any help would be most appreciated.

Windows File Explorer already has pretty good search functionality.
In Win8, if you press the Windows key on your keyboard and start typing the word "explorer" then "File Explorer" should come up in the results. I have Windows 8, the name may be slightly different in older versions of Windows. In Windows 8 you can hit the "Search" in the menu across the top (also called the ribbon) of the File Explorer window and choose your search options like search for a specific date, file type, advanced search where you can search for words in the contents of a file.

In WinXP you can press "START" then "Search" and then choose your search options. Don't be afraid to look at the "more advanced search options" which can let you search the contents of files.

If you want do more advanced search's based on the contents of files there is a good discussion here including 3rd party "GREP" tools - http://superuser.com/questions/60173/how-to-search-inside-files-on-windows-7

Hi, komakaze.
Something went wrong with my pdf reader. I wanna
convert pdf into text first. I wonder do you have any experience about pdf conversion toolkits. I want to look for a fine toolkit whose way of processing is simple and fast to help me with the relevant pdf conversion process. It will be better if it offers free trial package for users to check. If so, I will try it later and send you feedback soon. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Lee
