Some one else Posted similar question 4 months ago.I would like to add that after running the latest FREE version of Malwarebytes (only 3 weeks old - May 29, 2011) which was voted Best Answer, first a Quick Scan, then a Full Scan. "...No Malicious items were detected." Therefore, Malwarebytes, does NOT detect this unwanted Adware program, and should Not be the Best Answer as it was time-consuming and misleading. Next I'm going to perform a Custom Scan using My Norton Software, which I have a feeling, will also Not resolve this Issue. I think, eventually, I'll just have to Upgrade to IE9 to rid My web browsing of this annoying distraction. BTW I have no formal eduction in IT - but common sense told Me from the start that all the answers to the original question were incorrect.

That is your opinion and your entitled to it....but most pop-up's if the pop-up blocker is set at med high is an indication of Adware infections....so what harm did it do for the person to Download and Scan with Malwarebytes ?....nothing....maybe it would have caught something else ...like an Infected Registry Key....If I voted for best answer that would have certainly been my bet......and I would have answered the question the same way........

Allow me to help expand your IT education then. It is very likely that Malwarebytes found and fixed the problem 4 months ago. It's also very likely that this problem, while looking similar, may be a different malware program that Malwarebytes can not detect yet.
Having said that, no Antivirus or malware program is going to catch 100% of the nastiness out there. If this is a new variant of the software then it may take a few days before the AV/Malware providers can identify it and release an update to address it. If Malwarebytes and Norton do not find the problem then you may wish to try an adware program such as AdAware. |

Upgrade to Firefox & install the Ad Block Plus, Flash Block and No Script add-ins ..
In addition to pop-ups, this will block 99% of adverts and all the multi-media cr*p (background music, in-your-face time wasting video clips etc). Just enable Scrip for your on-line banking ect (and NEVER for general web browsing) = this will improve you defense against web site viruses as well. |
