Default why is hacking considered unethical

i would define it as "clever programming".... but it has been made to sound as if every hacker tries to crack into your personal data and accounts which is complete rubbish.

Default why is hacking considered unethical

Thats simply what is associated with.
Most of the time thats what it is.
Alot of the time it's not though, and people need to realize that.

For example,
I went to a wedding, and the photographer put all the photos up on a website. I wanted to download all of them to make a DVD. There were 7,800 photos. Each photo had an individual download button, on an individual page.
So, I made a little script. It downloaded all the photos in under 3 minutes, a task that would have taken hours. Nobody was hurt.

I will admit, hackers do some bad things (they're called black hats), and it is a large percentage of them.
Hacking is bad.

Default why is hacking considered unethical

Hacking is used to steal information, take accounts, take money, shut down websites, take over websites, identity theft, cause trouble, invades space.

Take the hacking group anonymous for example, they shut down Sony's PSN servers (well that's not actually been proven it was them) but its left millions of gamers with no internet access from their PS3.

what do you propose hackers do?

If hackers crack your personal data, they will steal it. Just like mugging or robbing a bank. Hacking for political purposes ie "hacktivism" or hacking to fix stuff.I would considered ethical. Most people think hacking is bad.

It's a definitions problem.
Hacking is not unethical. You're right, a hacker is a clever programmer. The public definition of "hacker" is more accurately defined as "cracker", one who breaks security. But as long as people call crackers "hackers", the perception will persist.

Yah, it can be considered "clever programming" but you have to remember hackers usually use exploits and vulnerabilities founds in programs and other services. It also is an invasion of privacy if the hacker gets a hold of sensitive information. It all depends on the hacker's motive and what he is accomplishing by doing this. A good example is jailbreaking iphones and other devices, these "hackers" do more good than harm

2 kinds of hackers, good and bad. Good hackers protect networks and systems while bad hackers steal personal information and use against something like taking all the money in a bank.

Hacker is a common term for cracking a security that's why its unethical. Either way, it depends it could be good or bad. Just like Shrodinger's cat.

If someone came into your shop, office or home and when you were busy they opened your storeroom, opened a filling cabinet, took out a collection of files and photocopied them... borrowed your keys and made a duplicate set and replaced some of the photos in your album with some of their own... would you consider that 'clever' or unethical... or just plain rude. It may seem to them that your security was slack and you were naive to leave them in a situation where they could do that stuff but the reality is...if you made it harder they would simply try harder. At some point we have to live with some kind of acceptable behavior code, social norms, mutual respect... or we will spend our whole lives locking and unlocking doors.

Of course we don't imagine the little things 'we' do are that bad, they don't really hurt anyone... but your idea of innocent fun might be quite different than mine.
