Windows XP is the operating system, it is not like a regular program, you can't simply uninstall it.You have to insert the Windows 7 DVD and boot from it, then choose the option to do a "Clean Reinstall" of the operating system. You can't "upgrade" from XP to Win7. You have to do a clean re-format with Windows 7 DVD.

This will wipe out EVERYTHING on your computer(with all personal files) so make sure to back up the important things.

First you actually need to have the windows 7 install disk, just put it in (make sure your pc has loads of memory) and it will just install and hopefully uninstall windows xp after you install win7

It cannot be done through the Control Panel. The only way to replace an OS is by writing over it but it will require booting from a Windows 7 installer media. You may also choose to load the Windows 7 installer media on XP's Windows Explorer. Run the SETUP.EXE and select the 'upgrade' option instead of booting from it and selecting 'custom (advanced)' option. Either way, you will lose your applications so they will have to be reinstalled using their original installer discs or files.
