Default what level of programming skills will i learn in electronic and computer engineering

I have been thinking about and looking up how much programming is done in Electronic and Computer Engineering. I came across someone saying that you should approach programming as a computer scientist rather than a code monkey which will let you transition between programming languages with a minor learning curve. I have made my mind up that I want to do said Engineering rather than Computer Science but how well does this course approach programming? More "code monkey" or "computer scientist" way? Also if it helps the said course is from University of Nottingham.
